2 Photography Apps That Help Plan The Perfect Pic By Assessing The Conditions

    GoldenHour.one Photography App

GoldenHour.one is a photography app that uses intelligent weather analysis to help photo junkies determine the best time and place to snap their outdoor pictures. There are four major components and interfaces to the solution: a clock, a map, weather forecasts, and reminders. All the information and analysis is summarized in a simple pair of “indexes” that allow the user to quickly assess the appeal of the conditions.

The clock interface has a 24-hour analog view that indicates the current time along with the SkyIndex (chances of a dramatic sky) and the LightIndex (odds of ideal conditions for portraits, landscape, and architecture). Ultimately, given the conditions, the interface shows you the “Golden Hour” of any given day to get your perfect pics.

The maps component of GoldenHour.one is designed to show the best locations to take your photos. Users simply pick any place on the map and the app shows where the sun will set in the morning and evening. Just like rideshare apps such as Uber and Lyft, the user simply needs to move the pin from place to place and the metrics accompany the co-ordinates. There is also support to store favorite places and come back to them later.

Since the sun isn’t always in the ideal location for photographers, there’s also a slider that can be used to find the upcoming days on which conditions will be optimal for your photographs. Once a date is selected, users are able to save it to their calendar and set reminders for when the Golden Hour is near. All calculations are based on local weather forecasts and indexes are calculated up to five days ahead.

GoldenHour.one can be purchased on the Apple App store for $3.99.

    Sun Surveyor Photography App

While GoldenHour.one is a helpful tool for hobbyists and professionals alike, there’s a pro-focused app known as Sun Surveyor that essentially acts as a personal guide to the sun and moon. Setting this photography app apart from the crowd is the level of detail surfaced from its real-time data.

The PV Industry feature, for example, enables users to preview solstice and equinox paths and view horizon obstructions. Users can also view golden hour and blue hour times, moon phases, super moons, milky way center visibility, and much more.

The live view component of the app uses the phone camera to put the user in the center of a sun and moon path simulator. The interactive map enables users to visualize sun and moon overlays, distance, elevation calculations, and shadows.

Street view within the app enables users to plan near and far with 360 degree interactive panoramas. Additionally, the 3D compass enables users to instantly get their bearings with a unique perspective.

In addition to being available on both Android and iOS, the app also is translated in quite a few languages ranging from  English, German and French all the way to Danish, Turkish and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese. Compared to other apps on the marketplaces, SunSurveyor is slightly more expensive, coming in at $7.99 for Android users and $9.99 for Apple users.
