Developing a startup isn’t easy. If you’ve been following our Codeless Conduct series you’ll see a lot of the challenges that successful startups have overcome. Many successful startups have founders that wear multiple hats. Great design is sometimes what leads to your startup getting more funding; sometimes it isn’t about what has more options, but what’s easier to use, and what looks more appealing to our eyes.
99designs, Graphic Stock, & SitePoint have teamed up to give designers an opportunity to practice their ability to create a great product and most importantly, get feedback on your work. (Sometimes all of our artistic egos get the best of us, we suddenly think we are the twice-removed great grandchild of Vincent Van Gogh.) The absolute best part of the contest though is the serious chunk of change of you can win: top prize is $5,000, runner up prize is $1,000 and the next ten favorites will each get a Free one-year ($99 value) GraphicStock Subscription.
“GraphicStock.com are on the forefront of providing the world’s designers with high quality yet affordable images, vectors and illustrations,” said SitePoint’s VP of Sales and Partnerships, Natalie Tarpinian. “Our new partnership with GraphicStock.com allows us to continue offering our audience of design professionals the best available tools and resources to express their creativity in web and graphic design. Plus, we love the 80’s, so we’re super excited to see what gets made by our audience for the contest!”
Participants will be given a credit card free 14-day trial to access a library of stock images (allowing you to download up to 25 images to work with) from Graphic Stock. They will use at least one image to create an 80s themed movie poster paying homage to their movie of choice. Even better, the movie can be from any time period, adapted to an 80’s style.
Here’s a sneak peek at some of the designs:
This has been a really cool contest on behalf of all the sponsors, and we’re excited to see all the submissions when it’s all said and done. Wasn’t it just Back to The Future Day anyway?
If you’re a designer, show us what you’ve got by entering the contest here. Share with a friend and if they win, maybe they’ll give you a referral fee!

Wondering what the outcome of this was. Has this been decided on now?
Hey jay, all winners were announced last November. Have a great day!
I bet there are a TON of graphic designers just lining up to get this money. Today’s designers are young and they would have lived through the 80’s with all of the best movies. Good luck to those that join.
This is totally cool. Having grown up in the 80’s, I have a lot of the movies fresh in my mind. I would like to join this contest, so thank you for posting it!
